Easter colouring pages brings you a brief  summary of what Easter is - in case you do not celebrate it in your country:

For many Christians the world over, Easter marks the day that Jesus rose from the dead on the 3rd day after his crucifixion.  Christians usually celebrate this resurrection on Easter Day or Easter Sunday. Easter's date changes every year - this makes it a 'moveable feast' and it is not  fixed to the calendar. Easter depends on the moon and it is celebrated  the first Sunday after the Vernal Equinox's full moon (called Paschal Full Moon). The date of Easter therefore varies between March 22 and April 25.

In Western Christianity, Easter means the end of Lent. lent is a time for  fasting and penitence in preparation for Easter and it begins on Ash Wednesday and lasts for  forty days (but not counting Sundays).

Easter celebrates the promise of life after death and Easter celebrations also focus on peace and forgiveness.Christians believe it is a time for thinking about suffering, injustice and hardship. During Good Friday services Christians meditate on Jesus's suffering and on what he said on the cross; 'Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.'

The  extra-long weekend that Easter offers is an opportunity for people to take a short break  or get together with family and friends. Easter often coincides with school holidays, so many people with school aged children incorporate Easter into a longer family holiday.
